There are some houses that are nice and some stunning, but occasionally there is one that for you just hits the right spot and you feel it would be nice to spirit it away for yourself.
Set in a village considered to be very France Profound, i.e. very French and rural, it has a wonderful atmosphere of existing this way for centuries before and to come. However this house has embraced modernity in terms of creature comforts, so don't worry. This is a house of two parts, in fact probably at one time, house plus barn, but today it is simply a slightly quirky house with two staircases (and a perfect "guest" suite to help preserve your privacy). The entrance is into the heart of any French house, the kitchen. This comes fully fitted and equipped and is just so right for the house. Step to your right and you enter the "snug", the original living room with honey coloured pointed stone walls, beams and a settle-down-with-a-good-book feel. From the kitchen, stairs take you to the two double guest bedrooms and family bathroom.
Turn the other way out of the kitchen and enter the superb barn conversion done to showcase French artistry with some amazing carpentry. Here is the formal dining room and everyday living room with a wood-burning stove set against a stone wall, a downstairs cloakroom and the second, artisan built, staircase takes you to a further large double bedrooms with en-suite showerroom and seperate wc, and the master bedroom (large) with en-suite bathroom..
The well insulated house is heated by two wood-burning stoves as well as electric radiators. The garden is all to the front, with a further garden/veg plot/orchard plus garden shed just down the drive.
The village is close to the larger village of Rom, with its bar and village shop. The local weekly market in the nearby village of Lezay is one of the largest in the area, only 8 km away - here there is also a swimming pool, and nice restaurant and will satisfy most of your everyday needs, It is 40 minutes to Poitiers where there is city life and culture, plus the TGV link to UK and an airport served by a low cost airline, or 50 minutes to the lovely city of Angoulême or 1.25 hrs from La Rochelle and the coast. ©
