It happens to us all eventually; you reach that time in your life when stairs are too much of a challenge and three upstairs bedrooms are no longer any use. So it is for the gentleman here. He is ready to move on and make his home ready for new owners to put their mark on the place and enjoy being part of a popular French village. A good value property for those of modest budget who do not want lots of garden to maintain and be within walking distance of a bar and local shop.
I entered into a kitchen with sink, basic units and a dining table and chairs. To the right, a lounge with built-in wood burning stove, wood floors and exposed beams. There is a fitted bathroom with separate WC on this floor and also a utility area. Stairs go up to three double bedrooms all with lovely oak floorboards.
The house has an impressive stone cellar and an attached workshop, garage and wood store. The oil fired boiler is found here and has been well maintained and the radiators are all new. As well as the pretty courtyard in front of the property, there is a rear door that opens on to a strip of land behind the house. The house has also an acre and half of unfenced land a few minutes walk up the road. It contains a couple of walnut trees and is more of a field than a garden, at present.
The property is on the edge of a village with bar/restaurant, shop, bakery and school. Civray, on the river Charente, is a 10 minute drive away and has a good choice of shops and places to eat out. Poitiers is under an hour away for international train and air links.
