Combine French traditional features with the English “normal” level of comfort and you have a homely and comfortable place with enough space to allow individualism. The attached gite allows for rental potential or offers you a four bedroom cottage including individual living area.
The living room is a good size with feature stone fireplace and wood burner, exposed oak beams and traditional stone sink. This is a room of light due to the dual aspect windows. At the rear is the fully fitted kitchen (handmade locally) and a door to the garden. The bathroom is to one side. Going to the right from the lounge takes you to the dining room and stairs to the first floor. A door from this room leads to a lobby with second downstairs toilet, more stairs and the entrance to the gite with fitted kitchen and shower room. Once the original cottage, this has a pre-Revolution fireplace and now the oil fired boiler. Up these stairs to the shower room and two double bedrooms. A couple of steps and you enter the fourth bedroom at the top of the main stairs. The master bedroom above the living room, is large with hand-built walk-in wardrobe, and access to the loft for storage.
Outside there is a pretty garden with grass, flowers and shrubs, two patios, orchard and large vegetable garden: a front drive and at the end of it, a barn which doubles as a garage. There is a small range of animal sheds for the oil-tank, wood and storage. There is also a good garden shed.
Set in a small hamlet of French homes, surrounded by the Charentaise countryside it is a short drive to the market town of Champagne Mouton and easy reach of either Confolens or Ruffec, both historic Charente towns.© |
