With a barn conversion a great deal of the fun is the planning, envisioning and realisation of the project. That is not to forget the frustrations of liaising with builders! But, the finished product is lovely. Five years on and family circumstances have changed: the perfect holiday home is no longer in the right place! A peaceful, beautiful rural retreat is not where the young want to be, and so it is up for sale.
The conversion has been very well done and what is lacking in terms of “traditional features’ is made up for by use of the lovely pointed honey coloured stone walls and nice décor touches, like the steps from lounge to kitchen through a beautiful arched door. All on one level, the entrance is into the fully fitted and equipped kitchen, large enough to eat in. From the kitchen you go through that doorway into the comfortable 46m² lounge and its niched stone wall and feature wood burning stove. From the kitchen is a short corridor to the three bedrooms, separate toilet and large bathroom with bath, shower and toilet (and room for the washing machine). There is also access into the barn, with its 38.5 m² of storage space.
The garden and patio are in front of the house, mainly laid to lawn with shrub beds on three sides, there is room for imaginative development here for the keen gardener.
Empuré is a lively village with a good sense of community, active Mayor and mixed population. The small town of Villfagnan is 5 minutes away by car and Ruffec 15 minutes. There it is possible to catch the one TGV for Paris or Bordeaux each morning, returning at the end of the day; or have access to the RN10 for Angouleme or Poitiers with their airports © |
