Nothing quite like them – however you would need to do a bit of hedge trimming to reveal them. I suppose it did not matter to the former occupants being sheep.
This is a lovely large plot of land on the corner of two small lanes and surrounded on the other two sides by more fields. Once the hedge is cut down those great views are over the Charente valley. In a small hamlet it is a short drive to the village of Chatain which still has a boulangerie/village shop. Here the river Charente is crossed by a very old bridge, although unlikely to be Roman as it is called. In the summer you can hire canoes here to explore this section of the river.
Civray, is about 15 minutes away with a full range of shops, doctors, dentists, banks, insurance agents (estate agents), a beautiful 12th century Church and twice weekly market which fills the square with colour, produce and people. Charroux is even closer. The Charlemagne tower dominates this ancient village and is just about all that remains of the 9th Century Abbey – then one of the largest in Europe! Hard to imagine today.
Poitiers, the “County Town”, is an hour's drive to the north with shopping malls, markets, restaurants, cinemas, theatre and TGV station with connections via Lille to London and the airport and Ryanair flights to the UK.
