At one time this was probably the farmhouse of the nearby Logis, it certainly dates back to a time before the Revolution. The modern renovation has been carried out with care to provide today’s facilities whilst retaining the character features of the property. Constructed in the beautiful cut stone of the area this house has a real presence.
The door opens into a small hallway with a stone staircase to the first floor. The kitchen is on the right, 42.58 m², this is a kitchen dining room with honey coloured flag stone floor, large stone fireplace and that bread oven – working I understand. Beyond the kitchen is a useful utility area, shower room, boiler room and access to the covered cobbled patio and side garden. To the left is the large living room, 43.45m². Here is another lovely stone fireplace, pointed stone walls and a curious walk in vaulted room/cupboard in the corner. Could this have been a priest hole at one time? The village is reputed to have tunnels from Logis to Chateau, so maybe. Huge oak beams abound. There is a really “different” bathroom and then three large bedrooms on the first floor, one of which is 45.29m² - definitely in grand style. Oil fired central heating adds to the luxury, along with the wood-burning stoves.
The barn and stables are unconverted and so have the potential to be whatever the buyer wishes. The previous owner had plans for an indoor swimming pool – there is certainly the room. There is also an open barn for parking. The house sits back in the plot and at 90° to the road. Hidden away behind high gates, the land is all around the property. The part close to the road, to the side and before the house, is considered constructible.
Tillou is an attractive village, unfortunately today without local shops, but a short drive from the small market town of Chef Boutonne with a full range of facilities, and about 40 minutes from the regional town of Niort.
