A beautifully restored cottage + barn for expansion/renovation and a lovely garden and pasture, in a lived-in hamlet close to a small riverside town.
Everything is beautifully presented, each character feature enhanced to create a warm inviting home. Entry is into the kitchen dining room; fully fitted and equipped kitchen corner; dining room with wood-burning stove set in the original stone fireplace and exposed stone walls and oak beams. There is a useful utility room and downstairs toilet to one side. Step down into the lounge with its original terracotta tiled floor (‘tomettes’) and second wood-burning stove and arched entrance to the sun room with its stunning views over the valley. The stairs lead to a galleried landing the three bedrooms and bathroom with separate shower cubical. Everywhere the wood gleams, the colours are soft, warm and co-ordinated. It has to be said that the one drawback are the low beams upstairs – but the doorways and walls have been well positioned in relation to them.
It would be possible to double the cottage accommodation by taking on the conversion of the attached barn and still leave room for storage. The house fronts a village lane going nowhere. At the back the land is mainly down to grass and slopes gently away from the large patio area.
Set in a small village, this is rural France at its best, full of French. Although there is no longer a bar or boulangerie, the van calls with bread and another with meat. It is only 3 kms to the small riverside town of Queaux or 5 kms to the larger and historically interesting, riverside town of L’Isle Jourdain.
