A local shepherd once kept his flock of sheep here. Now you will need a lawn mower to keep the grass in check. Fortunately, with only a quarter of an acre to cut, you will have plenty of time for the renovation project itself. The potential is promising and the buildings are a manageable size.
The main barn has a stone-built lean-to extension behind it. The latter would make a lovely kitchen, leaving the front room as a huge living room. There would be space and height upstairs for two bedrooms and a bathroom. The second property is in a more dilapidated state but would make a similar-sized cottage.
The gardens surround the main property and there is an ancient pond – now dried out – which needs to be filled in. The neighbours are close enough to strike up a rapport but far enough away for peace and privacy.
Rom has a bar, an excellent baker and a primary school. St Sauvent has a good range of small shops. For a wider range of commerce, Lezay –fifteen minutes’ drive away – is either a large village or a tiny market town. With a population of less than 2,000 I would say that it is a village, but with excellent amenities: bars, restaurants, large supermarket, cinema, park, fishing lake, tennis courts, summer lido and one of the largest weekly markets in France. © |
