Carved into the stone arch above the door is the date 1629 but one side of the house was modernised in the 1970s and a bathroom added. There is still a lot more that needs to be done, particularly in the older part and there is an attic to renovate. It would make a good holiday home.
Steps from the road lead up to French windows that open into a small sitting room with a fireplace – take a look at the beam that forms the mantelpiece! More French windows lead through to a basic kitchen with a door opening to the lane at the side of the house. A short corridor leads through to 2 bedrooms, the bathroom (washbasin, bidet and walk-in shower). The toilet is separate. Steps from the kitchen lead down to a storeroom and back kitchen where an ancient but solid staircase leads up to a further bedroom with a dressing room. More stairs lead to a large attic with an attractive beam structure. You may need to duck under beams that are a little over five feet high.
There is a stone garage next door but one, beside the little garden. It is not large but the pampas are doing well!
The property is situated close to the centre of the village and the bar/restaurant is just a few steps away. The little town of Champagne Mouton has shopping for everyday needs while for larger supermarkets the market town of Civray (on the river Charente) and Confolens (straddling the river Vienne) are both about 20 minutes drive. © |
