Set back from the road, this house is obviously shy. Wherever I stood in the front garden it hid behind trees, bushes, and foliage. If you are curious about it then you will just have to pay a visit.
The outside staircase takes one up to the entrance. A long hallway leads off to the heart of the house: an L-shaped reception room with a fireplace and beautiful wooden floor. The kitchen is large enough for informal dining but you might wish to update it. One can step down to the rear garden from here, via a small conservatory. The master bedroom again has a lovely wooden floor, with views over the garden. To its left is the bathroom, to the right the WC. A smaller double bedroom looks over the front garden. Internal stairs lead down to the ‘ground floor’ basement where there is a third bedroom, a second WC with washbasin, and a summer kitchen with sink.
Both the front and rear gardens are mature and from the rear balcony one looks down onto the river. There is an integral garage, store room, wine cellar and boiler room.
Is Civray a village or tiny market town? With a population of just 2,000 I would say village yet it has the wide range of commerce usually found in towns. The riverside setting makes it picturesque and there is a range of shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, weekly open-air market, cinema, summer lido, park and a pavement café culture in the summer.© |
