French taste normally makes one think of food, but this is a tasteful house (and delicious as well). With the decorating taste of Madame and the artisan skills of Mister, the house is immaculate.
The ground floor tells the story, central entrance, ancient flagstone floor, kitchen dining room to one side with huge exposed oak beams, stunning fireplace and open-plan kitchen area – more oak units here. On the other side is the living room with a more modern stone fireplace, but plenty of space. At the back of the hall is the entrance to the boiler room, store area, downstairs WC and access to the garage at the side of the house. Back in the hall and the staircase just gleams with years of polish and care and the rounded king post is wonderful. Upstairs is a huge guest bedroom, normal double bedroom and attractive master-bedroom. There is also a toilet and a lovely separate shower room. Throughout the house is decorated with the decoupage that Madame obviously loves to do, and always with taste.
It would be possible to create further first floor accommodation above the boiler room/cellar and there are signs here where an old door has been bricked up. However, this is an excellent storage space! There is a parking area to the back of the house as well as the two car garage. The garden is all at the front, surrounded by a wall and laurel hedge, very secluded, with grass, fruit trees and shrubs. There is even your own well.
Alloue is a small village on the river Charente, with bar/restaurant and baker, and is a short drive to the medieval town of Confolens on the river Vienne, with its annual festival and all facilities. © |
