I have never been so surprised or amazed by the interior of a house. The façade of this longère-style farmhouse is unassuming and I fully expected to go into a dark, gloomy interior. The inside is quite fantastic. It will not be to everyone’s taste but if, like me, you are a fan of the arts and crafts movement then this could be your dream house. The quality of the workmanship is indescribable.
Entrance is into a hallway with the staircase featured in the main photo. To the right is a beautiful living room with a cleverly created corner cocktail bar. The kitchen is bright and attractive with a practical breakfast bar but, for me, the real wow factor is the formal dining room with its stained glass arch window and classic fresco on the wall. Upstairs there is an office and four bedrooms, the master with its own en-suite shower room and en-suite bathroom.
The walled garden is to the front of the house. It needs landscaping but is wonderfully private. There is an attached cottage (not renovated) which could provide separate guest accommodation.
The property is situated in a hamlet surrounded by attractive, undulating countryside. It is less than ten minutes from the little riverside town of Chef Boutonne with a choice of bars, restaurants, supermarkets, schools, cinema, public château, fishing lake, builders’ merchants, weekly open-air market and a pavement café culture in the summer months.© |
