I loved the decorative pigeon holes above the barn doors at this property. In fact, the entire place has a warm ambiance about it. The accommodation is currently all on the ground floor, but, with large attics above and that attached barn, the house could be as large as you want it to be.
A small flagstone hall leads off to a spacious kitchen (which also has a traditional stone floor). There is a modern shower room and separate WC on the ground floor (although the property will need a modern septic tank installed). There are four more large rooms on this level, with fireplaces and other original features. Some of these have been used as bedrooms although if the attics were converted they could become a formal dining room, living room, lounge, study….an endless choice!
Opposite the house is an attractive stone outbuilding. The attached barn offers access to one of the attics. The gardens behind the property are extensive and very private. I would be tempted to demolish the more basic wooden structures in the garden, but each to their own!
The commune has a bar, while supermarket shopping and other commerce can be found at nearby Civray, a riverside town with an open-market, summer lido, cinema and a pavement café culture. © |
