Don’t be put off by the ‘road’ in the photo as it is a quiet cul-de-sac which ends two hundred yards past the property! The large house and outbuildings once belonged (allegedly) to a horse whisperer. I can certainly see the attraction for anyone with horses as both the land and the cathedral barn are ideal for equestrian purposes while the distinguished looking building with the dormer roof would convert into perfect guest accommodation. Rarely have I seen a property offering more horse-related opportunities; despite the house’s history, however, I cannot promise female buyers an appearance from Robert Redford.
The kitchen is vast, with flagstone flooring, fireplace and a large dining area. The large living room has whitewashed beams and fireplace. Downstairs is completed by a bathroom, shower room and separate WC. Upstairs, the original floorboards have been retained. The main room up here is currently set out as a second living room, with three bedrooms and a WC leading off from here.
Opposite the house is the barn while the other main outbuilding was once a porcherie (house for pigs). This could convert into a second home which was clearly the intention of a previous owner who started renovating it. Most of the land is behind this building.
The sleepy hamlet is only a few minutes’ drive from Charroux with its bars, restaurants, bakers, mini-supermarkets and other independent shops. In the summer there is a pavement café culture. © |
