Some British house hunters suffer from the ‘super-size-me’ syndrome when choosing their new home in France. They end up weeding and mowing acres of land, rather than enjoying the wonderful climate to its full. However, the owners of this property have got their priorities right. They have created a large sun-trap courtyard garden, with beautiful rose bushes, a rear courtyard for when the sun is setting and a vegetable plot to provide those vital ingredients for a salad on the terrasse. The house itself has been exquisitely renovated and, if three bedrooms isn’t enough, then the barn and garage offer plenty of scope for expansion.
The oak-fitted kitchen is large enough to eat in, and from here the hallway leads into a living room with inset wood burner which is open-plan with a formal dining room. There is a study as well as a downstairs bedroom, shower room, separate WC, utility room and a host of useful cupboards: one for laundry, one for shoes and a larger one for household appliances. Upstairs, there is a second bathroom and the two bedrooms have velux windows and wood flooring; the larger one is enormous.
Outside, as well as the courtyards and vegetable plot, there is a summer kitchen and wood store.
The sleepy hamlet is barely a minute’s drive from Montjean with its bar/restaurant and baker. The busy market towns of Ruffec and Sauzé Vaussais offer full shopping facilities and pavement cafés.© |
