Part of this property dates from the 13th century and was believed to be a lodging place for the Knights Templar. Today the visitors are tourists seeking a unique place to pass their holidays and not the pilgrims of yesteryear seeking protection on the Saint Jacques de Compostela pilgrimage route. There is a gatehouse (logis), the main house in the commanderie and 2 gîtes all offering comfortable accommodation with beams and exposed stone throughout.
The centrally heated commanderie has a fitted kitchen, dining room, lounge and 3 bedrooms upstairs with wonderful views over the Charente valley. The attic offers more space if needed. The logis has an open plan kitchen/living room, one downstairs bedroom and sleeping space above. The largest gîte with 5 bedrooms has a huge living room and balcony over the Charente. The middle gîte has a 48 m2 living room/kitchen with a mezzanine floor above and with French doors throughout opening onto the gardens and pool area.
The property has a further 336 m2 of barns and stables, including an old house that could be renovated. The land includes a field, 2 large lawn courtyard areas and access to the Charente river.
The property is 9 kms from Civray and under an hour to the airports of Limoges and Poitiers. © |
