This deceptively large house has been fully renovated by the current owners. Situated in a region of outstanding natural beauty – popular with French hill walkers – they run it as a successful bed and breakfast, offering a peaceful haven to ramblers and other tourists. However, if a guest house business does not interest you, the property would make a comfortable family home. Be warned, though, that the façade is misleading: the house – like the walkers – rambles on and on. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, another room appears. I loved the mildly eccentric twists and turns.
The entrance hall leads off to a large living room on the left, with a brick insert fire, and to a similar sized dining room on the right, perfect for paying guests or for entertaining friends. Behind here is a long galley-style kitchen which has been fully modernized. Even further back is a downstairs shower room, WC and a utility or store room. The staircase takes one up to an enormous master bedroom, a second large double with shower and sink and then further stairs lead to a snug with corner bar (with French windows to the courtyard garden). Beyond the ‘bar’ is a third bedroom (en-suite).
In addition to the pretty courtyard, there is a hillside garden opposite the back of the property, with graveled parking for three cars. In front, there are two useful storage sheds.
The friendly hamlet is less than five minutes from two lovely villages, both with bar/restaurants and one with its own man-made beach which is popular with French holiday makers. © |
