This stone property was once the home of the village blacksmith. Indeed, the downstairs bedroom was his forge. Now, however, it is a solid, traditional French house with thick oak beams and chestnut flooring. Modern creature comforts such as central heating have been added and the blacksmith would probably cast envious eyes on the luxurious indoor heated pool and jacuzzi.
An entrance hall offers practical space for coats and shoes. This leads directly into the farmhouse style kitchen with its cooking stove. As is the case with most of the interior, it is in a traditional, rural style. Some people will consider it old fashioned but I like it; each to their own! There is a WC with sink off the kitchen. The living room is vast and has a practical tiled floor and a door into the courtyard. The dining room offers an attractive space for formal dining. The downstairs is completed by a master bedroom with a dated bathroom. Upstairs, there are two further double bedrooms (one is vast) and a landing doubling up as a study area. The bathroom here is modern.
The heated swimming pool and jacuzzi are situated in a former outbuilding and garage with provision already made for a shower here if required. The large courtyard is a suntrap.
It is a three minute drive from the tiny market town of Chaunay with its popular hotel/restaurant, bar, chemist, two bakers, newsagent, post office, hairdresser, mini-supermarket and open-air market. © |
