If you are searching for the ultimate country retreat with income potential then you may not need to look any further. The location – overlooking fields and woodland – is fabulous, the renovation and conversion of the three properties is both top quality and in keeping with the traditional character. The third house is being completed at the moment and there will still be large outbuildings to convert, should you need a project. Either way, this would make a stunning property, either for two families or to create a relaxed gite complex. Spring was in the air when I visited and a pair of tuneful, neighbouring woodpeckers added a final, harmonious note.
Each of the three properties benefits from exposed stone (beautifully re-pointed), luxurious farmhouse-style kitchen, double glazed wooden doors and windows and central heating. Each has been meticulously renovated, a world away from ‘bog standard’ purpose-built gites. The first is a four bedroom barn conversion with an impressive open-plan living area, the second is a two bedroom stable conversion and the final property – still being renovated – is the restoration of a four bedroom original charantaise house. The ground floors are tiled throughout; while upstairs each has wooden floorboards. I would be happy to live in any of them.
All of the buildings are built around a large walled courtyard, with separate outlooks to ensure privacy. The gardens look out over fields. The outbuildings consist of traditional and open barns.
The nearby market town of Sauzé Vaussais has restaurants and shops as well as a hypermarket, summer lido, builders’ merchants, schools, traditional weekly market and pavement café culture. © |
