More and more French families are moving away from sleepy hamlets to buy in bustling little riverside towns such as this one. In terms of population and community atmosphere, Couhé is a village; in terms of facilities on your doorstep it is a vibrant town. The house itself is also deceptive. The front façade looks like a dolls house; once inside you realize that the property is vast, with a secluded courtyard garden and private garage the icing on the cake.
The living room is classically French, with a wonderful marble fireplace in full working order. The spacious kitchen offers French windows to the garden and contains a deep pantry. Downstairs is completed by a small laundry/ironing room. The original, twisting staircase leads up to two bedrooms and a bathroom, then up again to two more bedrooms (one in need of redecoration) and a shower room. On this floor the landing doubles up as a study. A large roof glass bathes the staircase in light. There is a traditional wine cellar beneath the house.
The courtyard garden has high walls and is completely private. The garage has a convertible attic.
The riverside town of Couhé offers access to Poitiers airport in twenty minutes. It is famous for its covered market place, annual fair and its medieval ramparts. It offers a wide choice of bars, restaurants, shops, banks, supermarkets and a vibrant pavement café culture. © |
