The lady who owns this house has a claim to fame: she used to be the hairdresser of Johnny Halliday, France’s most famous living pop star. She also has an exotic collection of elephants which is somehow appropriate as this property is enormous: a large, character house completely renovated and a second, smaller house (attached) to be restored, but with central heating already in place.
The hallway has a traditional flagstone floor. To the left is a lovely, spacious living room with a pebble-effect tiled floor, to the right is a guest bedroom and straight ahead is a bright, modern kitchen with access to a courtyard garden. There is a downstairs shower room with bidet and WC. The original, curved staircase leads up to three double bedrooms (two with showers), a bathroom, WC and small living room. There are laundry cupboards on the landing. The staircase continues up to a large convertible attic. The second house has a separate entrance with staircase up to three rooms, one set out as a study, with internal access to the main house. It too has a convertible attic.
The courtyard offers plenty of private space for eating outside and direct access to the garage.
The large village/little town of Charroux offers bars, restaurants, shops, mini-supermarkets, banks, doctor and dentist. There is a medieval market place and typical pavement café culture. © |
