I loved the sense of style and character about this property, from the formal iron entrance gates, traditional internal features, to the majestic views: in essence, an authentic country residence.
The front door leads into a vast open-plan living area with revealed stone, fireplace with wood-burner and a tiled floor. There are exposed beams, a corner kitchen and space in which to eat as well as relax in front of the fire on those winter evenings. The compact bathroom and separate WC are tucked behind the kitchen. Two of the double bedrooms are downstairs, along a corridor. Both have doors to outside, one has its own shower and sink. Upstairs is also open-plan: currently used as a reading room, this could easily be divided into two spacious double bedrooms and a bathroom.
The extensive gardens offer panoramic views of open fields and rolling hills. A tiled terrasse includes a brick-built barbecue. There is an attached garage with its own attic for storage space. A second house in the grounds – with its own vehicle access – offers an ideal summer guest house, comprising an entrance hall, large living room/bedroom with fireplace, and shower room with WC.
The nearby riverside town of Civray (less than ten minutes drive away) offers bars, restaurants, shops, cinema, summer lido, park, camp site and supermarkets. There is a central market place with an open-air market every Tuesday morning and a typical pavement café culture. © |
