I love the approach to this country house: through wrought iron gates and up a curving private drive. In addition, the enormous garden offers panoramic views over cornfields; it is delightful but you will certainly need a sit-on mower!
The house itself is a traditional stone property that has been rendered: less pretty, arguably, than revealed stone but far warmer in mid-winter. An entrance hall leads into an l-shaped living room with a working chimney and French windows onto the front patio/garden. There is a downstairs bedroom (with more French windows onto the patio) and spacious bathroom. The large kitchen has plenty of room for eating and offers direct access to the courtyard and covered terrasse. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, one very large and the other simply enormous. The simply large one has space for en-suite facilities while the 44m² one could easily be divided into two large bedrooms.
There is an attached garage, boiler room and a little building divided into two: wine store and utility room. The gardens lead directly onto the neighbouring cornfields and have not been fenced off.
The riverside town of Civray is ten minutes’ drive away. It has a selection of bars, restaurants, artisan shops, supermarkets, banks, garages, doctors’ surgery, traditional open-air market, cinema, summer lido and in the summer, pavement café culture.
