Commune: Le Vigeant (86)

An overwhelming sense of peace and tranquillity met me as I walked out into the garden of the first house, only interrupted by the birdsong. It was a beautiful summer afternoon and I could see how one could enjoy evenings in this secluded garden, a perfect place to get away from the hustle of UK living. A garden, a good book and a glass of wine, heaven!

Now two cottages, recently used as holiday homes, but a much older history when they were homes to four French families, not quite Coronation Street, but its rural equivalent. Both cottages have retained traditional features of exposed oak beams and original fireplaces. The first cottage’s lounge has an exposed stone wall as well. There are two staircases in this cottage, from the lounge and the dining room, but it is possible to go up one and down the other from the bedrooms. The double doors in the dining room open onto the terrace and secluded garden. The kitchen door leads to the back garden with open fields beyond. Upstairs are three double bedrooms, bathroom, landing and a sitting area.

The second cottage is slightly larger, with living room, a day room with double doors to its own back and side gardens, a dining room and kitchen, which granted is small, but could be expanded int  the tool shed.  Upstairs there are three good sized bedrooms and a bathroom.  Opposite the houses is a range of barns and outbuildings.   The land surrounds the barns creating a green island around the property.

The property, as a whole could do with refreshing; you are very aware when visiting that these are intended as holiday homes, but with investment could become very comfortable permanent homes.  For this reason the owners have already negotiated quite a bit on their original asking price.

Situated in isolation, just outside the village of Le Vigeant; it is a very short drive to the riverside market town of L’Isle Jourdain with its even older war history when the most northern battle against the Moors was fought and they were defeated (in, I believe 742 AD).  Now a pretty town with all you need for day to day living, and the river Vienne. Poitiers is under one hour away with its international air and train links.
