As a recent article in the British press observed, more and more French people are moving to pretty riverside market towns. In terms of population size they are similar to English villages but with a wide range of amenities. However, this ‘migration’ often involves a compromise: either one chooses an old, terraced, character property in the heart of town with little or no outside space, or a modern – arguably less interesting – bungalow with garden on the outskirts. This townhouse refuses to compromise: it is detached, re-pointed in beautiful stone, is vast inside, has plenty of outside space and is a stone’s throw from the central market square and the river. It has been fully renovated.
The front door leads directly into the dual-aspect living room which is simply huge. It has been completely re-tiled. The kitchen has similar tiles and is fitted with attractive units. There is a downstairs bedroom (study?), utility room, WC and shower room. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms and a fifth room which would make a bathroom (directly above the shower room).
The hillside garden – which needs to be landscaped – is accessed from the first floor, while the courtyard is large enough for both off-road parking and a patio area.
