This property arguably scores ten out of ten in terms of location: situated at the top of a hill, overlooking a historic village with its own bar and baker. Be warned, though, this is a huge property with outbuildings on a big scale! The house was an enormous holiday home for a well-to-do French family. However, it has been empty for years now and will need plenty of redecorating and TLC.
Downstairs, there is a kitchen with French doors out into the garden. The living room is the largest I have ever seen – bigger than many houses – and has a striking fireplace. There are four bedrooms on this floor, one with a fantastic fireplace. Two bathrooms and a shower room compliment the sleeping quarters. A vast mezzanine leads off to three bedrooms and a further shower room.
Outside, a large, beautiful barn has ornate round windows matching those of the house. The roof has been renewed. There is a further, smaller barn, stables, bread oven and well. Most of the garden is laid to lawn with views over the nearby village.
Genouillé has a bar, baker, hairdresser and infant school. Nearby Civray offers supermarkets, bars, restaurants, summer lido, open-air market and pavement café culture. © |
