The owner had just dug up his carrots and picked some cabbages from the ample vegetable plot at the side of the house and was trimming the leaves when we arrived. The garden is not huge, but it is secluded and bountiful whilst the beautiful looking house has been well renovated in the recent past.
I entered into the beamed and tiled kitchen which had a good range of sleek fitted units and room for a breakfast table. A small lobby to the left separates a large bathroom and separate toilet. To the right is an “L” shaped living/dining room of approximately 60m2. There is a built in wood burner to supplement the central heating, a beamed ceiling and a tiled floor. A room to one side is currently a bedroom, but as there is no window, I think it would make a better office. Attractive stairs lead up to a landing, five double bedrooms, a dressing room, workshop and toilet. Again, I would be tempted to loose the smallest bedroom (10.4m2) and create a bathroom.
There is a connecting door from the living room into a large boiler / utility room and the garage. All the garden is to the side and front of the house but is secluded behind a high hedge and gates.
The hamlet is 1km from the pretty riverside village of Sommières du Clain where there are some small shops and a restaurant. For a larger “supermarket” shop and a wider choice of commerce, Gencay is a 12km drive. Poitiers International Airport and city shopping is 40kms away. © |
