For
the present French owner renovating this house has been his passion. His
work is completed now and his pride in his achievement is justified. It
is a beautiful house in a lovely setting.
I walked in through the arched doorway to a paved entrance hall with a
beamed ceiling and a traditional stone sink beneath a bull's eye window.
On the left a corridor leads through to a pretty fitted kitchen in cream
and pink. The living room is tiled and has a wide insert wood burner in
the marble fireplace. A door opens onto a covered veranda. The bathroom
is in blue and white and the first of the bedrooms is also on the ground
floor. Below the house is a stone cellar that stays at a constant temperature.
An open staircase leads up to a wide landing with a round window. There
are four more bedrooms tucked under the slope of the new roof. At 35mē
one could be a dormitory for several grand children! A low door leads
into the fifth bedroom.
In the garden at the front is a well-preserved bread oven while at the
back a veranda offers shade for summer meals. Walk past the barn and the
tobacco drying shed and you come to a perfect place to put the swimming
pool while behind the walnut tree there is room for a good vegetable garden.
The property is tucked away down a private drive at the end of the hamlet.
St Romain (1km) has a boulangerie and a bar while for more extensive shopping
Civray is 10 minutes drive and offers supermarkets, other small shops
and a lively weekly market as well as schools to senior level. © |
