This
is a superb example of what can be done with a renovation project and
its location dominating the valley of the river Gartempe is quite breathtaking.
In the grounds of a ruined chateau it has a wealth of modern features
with its original historical character kept intact. Too grand for just
a holiday home this has to be the ideal retreat from the pressures of
modern life.
Highlights of the ground floor are the 40mē fitted kitchen converted from
the original bread oven, opening on to a spacious conservatory, a 48mē
salon/games room and huge en suite bedroom. On the first floor are two
equally huge bedrooms and two smaller ones, and above this a 70mē convertible
attic. There is a delightful vaulted cellar accessed from the "games room",
and the house has a total of four bath/shower rooms and four wcs, a central
lift connecting the ground and first floors, is fully double glazed and
has oil-fired central heating. Three vast outbuildings provide as much
space as the main house, and in addition - for the servants perhaps? -
are three small chalets, one in need of refurbishment.
Some of the chateau ruins are still in evidence and the house sits on
sloping grounds of over 13 acres, including a fountain and pond.
Despite its rural location, all main commerce is within easy reach in
Bellac and both Poitiers and Limoges airports are within an hour's drive.
