Though this attractive property has many things to recommend it, I think my favourite part is the lovely hidden part of the garden. It was so peaceful and private, I could imagine whiling away many a summer afternoon there
The house has been tastefully renovated, and whilst retaining lots of original features, it is modern and comfortable. The central hall has a lovely old staircase and exposed stone walls. On one side of the hall is a large lounge with an open fireplace, and on the other side, a dining room with terracotta tiles and another old fireplace. Next to this room is the kitchen, which is fitted with very modern units which complement the original cobbled floor. Upstairs, the large landing doubles as a study, and opens onto three big bedrooms, all with fitted wardrobes, and a bathroom with bath and shower.
There is a courtyard area to the front of the house, and next to that is the secret garden. The barns also open onto the courtyard, and behind them are the horse boxes and the paddock, as well as an open fronted hangar.
The property is situated in a quiet hamlet a few kilometres from St Sornin, a large village with a boulangerie, small shops and a wine cave. The larger market town of La Rochefoucauld is about 15 minutes away.
