You could move straight in to this comfortable farmhouse, and not need to do any work. If you want a project however, there is lots of room to expand.
At one end of the long hallway is a large kitchen with new white fitted units and a huge old fireplace. Next is the pretty lounge with a wood burning stove and polished wooden floor. Carrying on along the hall there are two double bedrooms, one with a door to the garden, and a bathroom and separate toilet. A door at the end of the hall opens on to the attached barn. The barn houses a utility area and has a mezzanine floor which gives access to the attic above the house, where there is space for at least three bedrooms.
The garden surrounds the house, and when I first visited on a chilly day in January, the snowdrops were in bloom reminding me that spring would soon be here. The front garden is landscaped and has a pretty well. The land slopes slightly at the rear of the house, and overlooks open countryside.
The property is situated about 2kms from the small town of Montemboeuf where there is a mini-supermarket, butcher, baker and cafes. The capital city of the region, Angouleme, where there is soon to be an air service to the UK, is about 40 minutes away. © |
