This stone built town house would make an ideal holiday home or a permanent home for a retired couple. It needs some work, but nothing major, and it’s within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

The front of the property faces the road into this pretty little riverside town. There is a kitchen off the front hall, with a nice old fireplace. Next is a lounge with a polished wood floor and a window overlooking the garden. The hall opens out into a utility area, and a toilet and shower room. The layout here could possible be changed to make better use of the space. Upstairs are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a separate dressing room, which could be converted into a nice en-suite bathroom. In one of the bedrooms there are stairs up to the large attic where more bedrooms could be created.

At the end of the hall an ancient door leads to the small garden. It’s quite narrow but is private and could be made very pretty. There is space for a barbecue area and patio, and plenty of room for the deck chairs. There are also several useful outbuildings.

Marthon is a pretty old town with a baker and a chemist and other small shops, as well as a pizzaria and hotel restaurant. It is situated in pretty countryside with fishing and golfing nearby, and is within a thirty minute drive from the border with the Dordogne. ©
