Standing in the main street of this small town, at the foot of an ancient tower, this property has much to offer. It is habitable as is, but there is room to extend and improve if you wish, and the shops are on your doorstep.
The double glazed front door opens onto a large kitchen, with terracotta tiled floor. Unfortunately pride of place is given to the central heating boiler, but it could be moved or maybe boxed in. Next to the kitchen is a small lounge with an old fireplace, beamed ceiling and electric shutter on the large window. A small lobby leads to a smart bathroom with bath and shower, and a separate toilet. A winding staircase leads to thee double bedrooms all with polished wood floors. It’s necessary to go through the smallest room to get to one of the others, but you could change it into a bathroom, and put one or even two more bedrooms in the huge loft.
From the rear lobby, double doors open onto a tiny courtyard, with high walls which look like they were once part of the ramparts of the castle. It could be cleared out to make a very pretty and private area for alfresco dining.
Marthon is a pretty town with baker, chemist, and other small shops, bars and restaurants. The city of Angouleme, with it’s TVG connection, and (from next spring), airport, is only 30 minutes away. © |
