You can certainly keep an eye on the rest of the village from this vantage point on the hill. The present owners believe it may once have been a watchtower for the abbey that was once in the valley. It would certainly be the ideal spot for a lookout.
The cottage has a living room/kitchen with a stone fireplace with wood burning stove. Next to this is a small room once used as a bedroom, but could be a study or a sitting room. It is from here that you can best contemplate the lovely view. A lobby off the living room leads to a shower room and toilet. The old cellar has been recently converted to a lovely summer sitting room, with a door out to a patio area overlooking the garden. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, and a second toilet. An added bonus is that the owners are including most of the furniture and fittings.
The old barn has been converted into a lovely guest house, with a new kitchen, a large bed sitting room and a shower room. Plans have been drawn up to extend the barn and make a separate bedroom. The garden is delightful, with lots of different levels, hidden corners, and several patios to choose from for al fresco dining. There is also an above ground swimming pool to cool off in.
There is a small general dealer and tea shop, and a post office in the village, and the market towns of Mansle and Chasseneuil are only about a 15 minute drive away. © |
