A common problem with some French houses is the lack of bathrooms; sometimes a property with lots of bedrooms only has one bathroom. Not so with this house, each of the six bedrooms has its own en-suite bath or shower room, perfect for a large family, or for B&B.
A wide hall opens onto the large salon which has a newly tiled floor and marble fireplace. Across the hall are an equally large dining room, and a fitted kitchen, both with French doors to the garden. An old winding staircase leads to four of the bedrooms, all double. The staircase continues on to the top floor, where there are two more huge bedrooms, with exposed beams.
Attached to the house is a barn big enough to house six cars. It has yet another toilet, (handy for the pool), and access to the cellar. To one side of the house is a second small house to restore, it boasts a lovely old fireplace, and a bread oven. Electrically operated gates open onto the garden at the front of the property, which has a swimming pool, and lots of mature fruit trees. There is also a tiny garden at the back.
Vouthon is a pretty village situated on the river Tardoire. It is an easy 15 minute drive to Angouleme, with its TGV railway station, and soon, an airport with low cost flights from the UK. © |
