When, as a child, I drew a picture of a house there would be four windows, a door in the middle and a chimney on the roof. It would be set in a garden where roses and lavender grew and surrounded by green fields. This is just such a house and inside, the dream continues.
On the ground floor a big beams runs across the ceiling of an attractively fitted kitchen with a solid fuel stove (wood or coal). The sitting room is light and bright with a stone fireplace and a woodburning stove. There is a shower room on the ground floor and a separate toilet. The staircase goes up from the living room to an office on the landing and to bedrooms with interesting floors. The first has pretty tiles in the traditional charollais style; the second has traditional terracotta tiles. There is access onto a covered terrace with views over the fields and the woods.
The garden of about half an acre is surrounded by a dry stone wall with flowers and shrubs and mature trees. There are two stone barns.
The property is set in countryside a short drive from the little town of La Clayette in the south of the Burgundy region. The city of Lyon is about an hour and a quarter away by car. © |
