I love roofs with dormer windows – the French term is chien-assis, (sitting dog) which is even more delightful. This pretty stone house has been restored retaining some lovely character features and adding some new ones that make it easy to live in. The property is presented in immaculate condition.
The entrance hall leads through to a large attractively fitted kitchen that opens into the living room. The terracotta tiled floor, the beamed ceiling and the old stone fireplace enhance the living space. A sitting room opens onto a terrace that is perfect for summer meals. The winding stone staircase leads up to the first floor where there is an office and two large bedrooms with exposed beams. There is potential for a third bedroom. The bathroom is on this floor and the toilet is separate.
Outbuildings include a barn, stable, cellar and pretty stone well in the local style. The wooded garden is enclosed by stone walls.
Surrounded by fields, the property is within easy reach of the little town of La Clayette in the south of Burgundy. © |
